What is Leadership Presence for Women?

Have you ever seen a woman walk into a room  – then everyone stops to listen? It’s like these women have a special kind of confidence and power that impels people to pay attention. This is what we call female leadership presence. Leadership presence isn’t just about how a female leader looks, but about how she speaks, behaves, and engages others. Presence isn’t about wearing a suit, or speaking in a loud, dominant voice; it’s about showing confidence and radiating comfort with one self.

Why is it Important for Women to Radiate Presence?

Women with leadership presence stand out. They are more likely to be taken seriously. When a leader who identifies as female has presence (aka gravitas), she demonstrates that she is confident and can lead others. Presence helps her gain respect and trust from others while talking to her team, giving a speech, or making decisions. After all, people are more likely to listen to someone who shows confidence and authority; leadership presence for women helps make that happen.

How Can Women Build Executive Presence?

It takes practice. Here are some ways women can develop their business presence:

  1. Speaking with Confidence: Women with leadership presence speak clearly and confidently. They know what they want to say and say it with assurance.
  2. Body Language: How a woman stands or sits says a lot about her confidence. Women with gravitas stand tall, make eye contact, and show they are engaged and interested in the conversation. In our LP for Women course, we teach additional tools, too.
  3. Listening Skills: A great leader listens to others, respects their opinions, and responds thoughtfully. Listening is an important part of presence because it shows that a leader values what others have to say. Our executive presence for women course show each participant how to listen to and engage others.
  4. Composure Under Pressure: Women with business presence remain calm, even when things are stressful. They don’t let small problems shake them. They can make decisions with a clear mind, which inspires others to trust them. Participants in our LP for Women course know how to ground themselves while in the spotlight and while under pressure.

How Does Executive Presence for Women help Women in Their Careers?

A good business presence course for female-identified leaders can open up career doors. When women show they have leadership qualities, others start to see them as capable leaders. These women in business are more likely to get promoted, asked to contribute advice, and/or given important projects. People want to work with someone who is both confident and can guide the team through challenges. Leadership presence helps make that happen.
