Acknowledge The Awkwardness

Be authentic and real with your colleagues about the awkwardness of the changed dynamic. Ask them directly how they feel about your new role. Actively listen and empathize if they are upset or had wanted the role for themselves. If you are their new supervisor, tell them that you now have the opportunity to grow them into a leadership role (if they wish), but that you’ll also have to be the “boss” when necessary. – Dan Messinger, Cream of the Crop Leaders
